Safety Services: A Look Ahead
“Many Passions, One Flame”…what will that mean to you? Only you will be able to answer that question. What will it mean to the Safety Services team? Ah, that is a question that I can answer. For us it is a chance to re-connect as a team; work on our emergency service training; talk, laugh, love, see and participate in the magick that the CMA community can create; and serve our community in ways we know best. It also means that the seeds of our dream planted so many years ago are finally beginning to bear fruit. As I write this, the foundation of Mathew’s Healing Station stands strong where once only bare earth could be seen. Magick has been done there to bless its purpose of being a place of laughter, of healing, of service and of love. It will be the manifestation—the jewel in the lotus—the culmination of Mathew’s service and those who came before him; Marcus, Jason and John and continuing the line for those who follow; Maeven, Liz, Dawg….It is our symbol of hope, our gift to the seven generations, standing for the best of what is in each of us.
I have spoken of magick, but being the person that I am, I must speak of practicalities as well. We are here to serve the community but we also, occasionally, must protect it as well. To that end, one issue that needs to be addressed is reporting sexual harassment. If you encounter it, please find a Guardian and report it to the Co-Chief Guardian on duty. It will be documented and acted upon appropriately. Although repressive PC standards are relaxed at events, no one needs to put up with someone who doesn’t understand all the syllables in “NO”. We will be monitoring the weather and wind speeds, and, should it be warranted, the Village will batten down and fires extinguished. On Thursday evening and every morning to follow you will hear our mantra: “Water, Water, Water; Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen; Shoes, Shoes, Shoes”…and be prepared—the junior members of our team will be walking about and asking you when the last time you had water was.
I would ask that you be aware of your surroundings and your own status. If you feel that something is unsafe then report it to a Guardian. If you feel unwell, then check-in with the Healing Station. Magick does work, as we all well know, otherwise we wouldn’t be who we are, but be practical too; don’t check in your self-awareness with your clothes at the gate…………………………………………….
